It’s the arrival of spring and colour is bursting back onto the scene. Gone are dull, grey days, replaced by blue skies, bright blooms and lush greenery. The sun is shining, and life is looking up. In keeping with this theme, we’ve suggested four ways to brighten your wardrobe and embrace the warmer season ahead.
Begin with the basics
Reaching for colour when you’ve spent the winter donning a head-to-toe black getup can be daunting. Rather than splurging on big-ticket items in bold hues, elevate your existing wardrobe favourites with rainbow pops. Vintage crew neck tees and loose-fitting linen shirts are a way to wear a bright hue, while channelling a relaxed vibe.
Embrace a tonal colour palette
There’s nothing quite like a monochrome ensemble as it screams, I’m very much together. This type of dressing is actually quite seamless to pull off once you pair the right tones together. Find a single base hue that you love and then extend on this using shades, tones and tints of the same colour. Do as fashion editor Melissa Singer says and turn to ice-cream colours like apricot, apple, guava and lemon. Channel inspiration from Zoë Foster Blake who leads the way in the tonal dressing stakes and is often found rocking colourful matching tracksuits, power suits and chic skirt and top combos.
Elevate with accessories
Jewellery, handbags, sunglasses and belts provide the perfect pop colour antidote for those afraid of being too bold. Generally, when it comes to accessories, less is more. Find a statement pair of sunglasses or earrings or brighten up an outfit with a quirky handbag. Style influencer Eloise Jaksic provides a lesson in bright and colourful dressing, and knows how to elevate an outfit with bold accessories.
Be bold with beauty
According to the makeup experts over at Elle Australia, the beauty trend to embrace this spring is yellow – play with soft lemon pastel eyeshadow or bright shadow sticks in muted mustard. Pair back with dewy skin and a flick of mascara.
